Hospice of Kona (HOK) announces that West Hawai‘i residents who are interested in supporting their neighbors and giving back to the community may be interested in becoming a “Stars of Service” volunteer. Training is two full days on Wednesday, May 23 and Thursday, May 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day, at the HOK office (75-5925 Walua Road, Suite 102). Lunch will be provided. To register, contact Deann Canuteson, Director of Volunteer Services, (808) 443-2936 or [email protected]. Attending both meetings is mandatory to become a Certified Hospice Volunteer.

“Our volunteers are the stars of our organization,” said Canuteson. “They dedicate their time, services and caring to families and friends of patients with life-limiting illness. These men and women make such a huge difference to Hospice of Kona and to the community.”

Volunteer positions include massage therapists, hair stylists, patient companions, bereavement support, musicians and many others. Volunteers may have specific roles within the home setting or assist Hospice of Kona in other areas.
