Hawai‘i Fire Department units dispatched to a possible brushfire on Hoaka Road in Hilo on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at 10:17 p.m.

Upon arrival, the HFD found a structure fire—a two-story abandoned structure with fire extension on both the first and second floors.

Many windows were boarded up with plywood.

Personnel from the Haihai Fire Station, Kaumana Fire Station and Central Fire Station deployed multiple lines and quickly brought fire under control.

No injuries reported and no one was at the residence upon arrival of fire units.

Losses are estimated at $40,000. The value of the remaining structure is $100,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
