Puna District Crime Report: March 16–31, 2018

The Hawai‘i Police Department’s Puna Community Police responded to 18 burglaries, two robberies, 14 vehicle thefts and six vehicle break-ins in the 16-day period between March 16 and 31, 2018.

Of the 14 vehicles reported stolen, six had been recovered at the time of this publication.

The complete list of locations affected and date in which the incidents occurred are as follows:

18 BURGLARIES

  1. On March 19, 2018 the victim reported that the suspect entered the victims residence on 30th Avenue in Hawaiian Paradise Park and threatened occupants within.
  2. On March 19, the victim reported that the suspect(s) entered the victims residence on 39th Street in Orchidland and removed electronics, jewelry and home equipment.
  3. On March 20, the victim reported that the suspect(s) entered the victims residence on Highway 137 in Pāhoa and removed furniture.
  4. On March 20, the victim reported that the suspect(s) entered the victims residence on Nanawale Circle in Nanawale and removed electronics.
  5. On March 21, the victim reported that the suspect(s) entered the victims residence on Pikake Drive in Ainaloa and removed home decorative items.
  6. On March 22, the victim reported that the suspect(s) entered the victims residence on Road C in Hawaiian Acres and removed sporting equipment.
  7. On March 23, the victim reported that the suspect(s) entered the victims residence on North Glenwood Road in Mountain View and removed electronics and other miscellaneous items.
  8. On March 24, the victim reported that the suspect(s) entered the victims residence on Kahakai Boulevard in Pāhoa and removed home repair items and building material.
  9. March 25, the victim reported that the suspect(s) entered the victims residence on Moku Street in Leilani Estates and removed an appliance.
  10. On March 26, the victim reported that the suspect(s) entered the victims residence on 38th Street in Orchidland and removed electronics.
  11. On March 26, the victim reported that the suspect(s) entered the victims residence on Puni Lapa Loop in Hawaiian Shores and removed electronics and miscellaneous tools.
  12. On March 26, the victim reported that the suspect(s) entered the victims residence on 36th Street in Orchidland and removed electronics and forms of identification.
  13. On March 27,  the victim reported that the suspect(s) entered the victims residence on Maui Road in Nanawale and removed electronics and other miscellaneous items.
  14. On March 27, the victim reported that the suspect(s) entered the victims residence on 13 Mile Road in Kea‘au and removed electronics, jewelry, sporting equipment, currency and other miscellaneous items.
  15. On March 27, the victim reported that the suspect(s) entered the victims residence on Henele Road in Mountain View and removed electronics and miscellaneous tools.
  16. On March 28, the victim reported that the suspect(s) entered the victims residence on Hawai‘i Road in Nanawale and removed jewelry and firearms.
  17. On March 28, the victim reported that the suspect(s) entered the victims residence on 23rd Avenue in Hawaiian Paradise Park and removed furniture.
  18. On March 30, the victim reported that the suspect(s) entered the victims residence on Aulii Street in Orchidland and removed sporting equipment and other miscellaneous items.

2 ROBBERIES

  1. On March 24, the victim reported that he was hitchhiking on Highway 130 in Pāhoa. Victim reported being picked up by two male parties in a SUV. Suspect driver stopped at an intersection on Highway 130 and both suspects assaulted and brandished a knife and a firearm before removing jewelry and a backpack from the victim. Through investigation, officers were able to identify a suspect.
  2. On March 24, the victim reported picking up a male and female hitchhiker and drove them to Ola‘a Road in Kurtistown. Both hitchhikers then assaulted the victim and removed items from the victim’s vehicle. Through investigation the suspects were identified, arrested and charged.

14 STOLEN VEHICLES

  1. On March 17, victim reported that the suspect(s) removed the victim’s gold Nissan Pathfinder from Tangerine Drive in Ainaloa.
  2. On March 18, victim reported that the suspect re-moved the victim’s black Oldsmobile sedan from Railroad Ave.
  3. On March 20, victim reported that the suspect(s) removed the victim’s Honda motorcycle from Hinuhinu Street in Mountain View.
  4. On March 20, victim reported that the suspect(s) removed the victim’s silver Hyundai Elantra from Pāhoa Village Road in Pāhoa. The vehicle has since been recovered.
  5. On March 21, victim reported that the suspect(s) re-moved the victim’s white Ford Van from Kaleponi Road (Road 9) in Fern Forest.
  6. On March 22, victim reported that the suspect(s) re-moved the victim’s gray Honda Fit from Nanawale Boulevard in Nanawale. The vehicle has since been recovered.
  7. On March 23, victim reported that the suspect(s) removed the victim’s maroon Nissan Altima from North Glenwood Road in Mountain View. The vehicle has since been recovered.
  8. On March 24, victim reported that the suspect(s) removed the victim’s green Toyota Corolla from Hibiscus Street in Fern Acres.
  9. On March 24,  victim reported that the suspect(s) removed the victim’s black Suzuki Grand Vitara from Po‘ola Road in Hawaiian Acres.
  10. On March 24, victim reported that the suspect(s) removed the victim’s green Subaru Legacy from Kahakai Boulevard in Pāhoa. The vehicle has since been recovered.
  11. On March 26, victim reported that the suspect(s) removed the victim’s red Kia Spectra from South Puni Mauka Loop in Hawaiian Shores. The vehicle has since been recovered.
  12. On March 28, victim reported that the suspect(s) removed the victim’s moped from 39th Street in Orchidland.
  13. On March 28, victim reported that the suspect(s) re-moved the victim’s green Yamaha ATV from Sugarcane Lane in Ainaloa.
  14. On March 29, victim reported that the suspect(s) re-moved the victims white Nissan Frontier from Orchidland Drive in Orchidland. The pickup truck has since been recovered.

6 VEHICLE BREAK-INS

  1. On March 16, victim reported that the suspect(s) entered the victim’s vehicle on Papaya Farms Road in Pāhoa. Nothing was removed.
  2. On March 21, victim reported that the suspect(s) entered the victim’s vehicle on Kahakai Boulevard in Pāhoa and damaged the steering wheel console.
  3. On March 22, victim reported that the suspect entered the victim’s vehicle in a business parking lot on Highway 11 in Kurtistown and removed electronics and other miscellaneous items.
  4. March 23, victim reported that the suspect(s) entered the victim’s vehicle on North Glenwood Road in Mountain View and removed a purse.
  5. On March 28, victim reported that the suspect(s) entered the victim’s vehicle on 35th Street in Orchidland and damaged the ignition.
  6. On March 28, victim reported that the suspect(s) entered the victim’s vehicle on Pāhoa-Kalapana Road in Ka-lapana and removed a backpack.
