Lahaina Galleries invites the public to meet some of the artists displaying work there on Saturday, March 10, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the gallery. Featuring artists Guy Buffet, Steve Matson, Rod Cameron and Darrell Hill. This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments and light pūpū will be served.
Some of the artists on hand will be:
- Guy Buffet (France/California) His famous images depict restaurants, people, landscapes, cities and of course, Hawai‘i (one of his favorite locations). His whimsical renditions and fine artwork have been admired and collected worldwide for many decades. Guy is the signature artist for Champagne Perrier Jouet, and has been commissioned by corporations such as Grand Marnier, Absolut Vodka, Ventura Foods, Westin and Ritz Carlton Hotels.
- Steve Matson (California) Matson received an Oscar for his special effects work in the movie, The Life of Pi, and is the creator of “moving paintings.” This new and unique art form blends that artist’s animation talents with his original oil paintings, by adding actual motion to his works. These moving paintings combine painting, photography, videography, animation and sound effects for private television play. Matson continues to work in the entertainment industry and has been part of such films as: Star Wars EP3, Superman, Chronicles of Narnia, Polar Express and 300 to name a few.
- Rod Cameron (Local) Rod Cameron is a “Big Island” artist, well-known and admired for his incredibly colorful and beautiful oils featuring remarkable landscapes, sunsets and people of Hawai‘i. Prior to following his passion for creating fine art, Rod worked as a very successful designer and illustrator for over 20 years, with such clients as The Los Angeles Times, Warner Bros., and Hasbro. Rod has also illustrated many published books and has received over 60 awards for artistic excellence.
- Darrell Hill (Local) Hill (1941-2013) was a pioneer of Bold-Impressionism. Hill’s rich, vibrant paintings are infused with the energy and spirit of the islands and are reflected in his beautiful beaches, tropical fruits, flowers and foliage, and images of its native people. Enriched by an Impressionist-inspired observation, Hill shared the beauty he encountered daily. Hill’s luminous use of light, subject and powerful coloring techniques demonstrate remarkable talent and sensitivity. His images can be observed by the heart as well as the eye. Pat Hill, Darrell’s wife will be in attendance on his behalf.
