Canadian Rapper Josh Martinez to Perform in Hilo

Open Temple productions will present Canadian hip-hop artist Josh Martinez at the Hilo Town Tavern on Saturday, Mar. 25.

A founding member of The Chicharones, Josh Martinez is well-known in the indie hip-hop scene. His solo album “Midriff Music” claimed the honor of “Best Rap Recording” at the Western Canadian Music Awards in 2005. He was also named among the “Next 100 Rising Stars” by URB Magazine. His production partners have included notable artists like Devin the Dude, Classified, Pigeon John, indie rock band Mother Mother, Sleep and Awol One. Currently a Portland, Oregon resident, Martinez also leads as frontman for a live rock band called The Pissed Off Wild.

The Hilo show will feature hip-hop artists Priscilla Momah and Knowledge IZ of Cincinnati who currently live in Puna, and Hilo’s own DJ and prolific music producer Self Target, as well as special guests.

Restricted to ages 21 and older, doors will open at 9 p.m. Tickets are available at the Hilo Town Tavern at 168 Keawe Street: $12 pre-sale or $20 at the door. For more information, visit the show’s event page.
