Hunter Education Game Care Workshop

For the first time ever, the Hawai‘i Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Hunter Education Program will be holding an advanced Hunter Education Game Care workshop.

Ahead of the spring game mammal hunting seasons, two simultaneous hands-on workshops will be held on Jan. 13, 2018, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at hunter education classrooms on Hawaii Island and O‘ahu.

This workshop is offered free of charge and open to any hunter education graduate. The approximately four-hour-long workshop builds on game care principles covered in the basic hunter education course and provides real demonstrations on topics including: field dressing, deboning, meat preparation, and recipes. The workshop is offered in a hands-on, discussion-style format intended to engage participants and promote interaction.

Each workshop is limited to 25 students. People need to pre-register for the workshops and must have already completed their Hunter Education certification. Standbys will be accepted at each location on the day of the workshop. All students attending the workshop will receive a certificate of completion.

The workshop on Hawai‘i Island will be held at the Kamuela Hunter Education Classroom located at 66-1220D Lalamilo Road in Kamuela.

The workshop on O‘ahu will be held at the Honolulu Hunter Education Classroom located at 1130 N. Nimitz Highway, A212, in Honolulu.

We hope that this is one step forward in bridging the gap between graduating from hunter education and actually getting out into the field.”

The Hunter Education Program hopes to expand advanced workshop offerings in 2018.
