Bicyclist in Critical Condition After Accident on Mana Road

The Hawai‘i Fire Department responded to the report of a bicyclist accident on an unpaved gravel road in an area frequently used by cyclists and joggers on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017.

The accident happened about 3 to 4 miles up Mana Road from the Highway 19 intersection.

Four HFD units with seven personnel arrived on the scene at 12:20 p.m.

Prior to arrival of HFD personnel, fire dispatch reported victim had gone unconscious and CPR was initiated by bystanders, which included a HFD off-duty personnel.

The victim is a 53-year-old visitor from San Francisco who was biking along with his spouse when he lost control and fell on the unpaved roadway.

He was wearing a safety helmet.

He was transported to North Hawaii Community Hospital via Medic 9 in critical condition.

The scene was turned over to HPD for further investigation to accident.

Engine 9, Medic 9, X-9 from Waimea Fire Station and Chopper 2 from South Kohala fire station responded.
