Hawai‘i Island Libraries Host Cultural & Music Programs

The following public libraries will present cultural and musical programs throughout November.

The Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i is sponsoring these free programs along with the Hawaiʻi State Public Library System. Additional funding and support are provided by the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Outreach College’s Statewide Cultural Extension Program, National Endowment for the Arts, Hawaiʻi State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and the University of Hawaiʻi.

Hilo Public Library, Saturday, Nov. 18, 1 p.m.: A Tribute to Slack Key
Slack key guitarist John Keawe will share the history of slack key and perform some of his compositions both instrumentally and vocally. Find more information here.

Naʻalehu Public Library, Thursday, Nov. 30, 3:30 p.m.: The Art of Taiko
Master taiko drummer Kenny Endo and his Taiko Center of the Pacific ensemble will demonstrate and discuss taiko in group and festival drumming. Find more information here.
