Arbor Day Tree Giveaway at Hawaiʻi Electric Light, Nov. 4
The Hawaiʻi Electric Light Company will host an Arbor Day Tree Giveaway on Saturday, Nov. 4, at its office located in Hilo from 9 a.m. to noon, or while supplies last.
Trees that will be given away this year include kukui, kokiʻo, keʻokeʻo, niu, milo, kou, and kōʻokoʻolau.
The annual event, in partnership with Kua O Ka La Public Charter School, Hooulu Lahui, Kaulunani Urban and Community Forestry Program, is to help perpetuate native species.
Kua O Ka La students care for the trees and compile a newsletter to distribute with the trees. Information on how to properly plant, site, and care for the tree will also be distributed.
Students and instructors will be available to educate the public on how to care for their trees and explain the cultural significance of the native plants.
The Hilo office is located at at 1200 Kilauea Ave.
