Pan Pacific VEX Championships, Nov. 4-5

More than 80 teams from Hawaiʻi Island, Maui, Molokaʻi, Oʻahu, California and China will compete for qualification slots for the 2018 VEX Worlds.

Qualification for the event will take place at the 2017 Pan Pacific VEX Robotics Championships from Nov. 4-5, at the Campus Center Ballroom at University of Hawaiʻi Mānoa.

The free event is sponsored by the Hawaiian Electric Companies and Okinawa Enetech.

Organizers will run the VEX IQ and VEX EDR competitions concurrently on separate fields. Elementary and middle school participants in the VEX IQ challenge will play the current year game, Ringmaster, which involves moving colored rings across the playing field to score points.

Middle and high school participants in the VEX EDR challenge, In the Zone, will compete in two-team alliances to score points by stacking cones and parking robots. The matches consist of autonomous and driver-controlled play to achieve the scores.

Opening ceremonies for the Pan Pacific VEX games begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, with the first qualification matches starting at 10 a.m.

The awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 1:30 p.m. for the VEX IQ competition and 2:30 p.m. for the VEX EDR competition.
