Kīlauea Volcano Overflight: Lava Delta Still Intact… for Now

Rainy weather, spectacular lava lake, stunning red hot flows above the Pali and a precarious lava delta still intact at Kamokuna were the sites of the day on the morning of Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017, said Tropical Visions Video photographer and videographer Mick Kalber, about last week’s Paradise Helicopters overflight of Kīlauea Volcano and the surrounding area.

“Extraordinary Paradise Pilot Sean Regehr made the recent discovery of Pele’s new breakouts above the Pali,” said Kalber.

Last week’s flow near the vent has died, but Kalber captured images of a gorgeous lava lake within the vent and the amazing new flow between the raindrops.

“The lava bench at the ocean entry of Kamokuna is, remarkably enough, still intact, in spite of its enormous cracks,” Kalber said.
