Tickets are now on sale for the 20th annual Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Annual Awards Dinner and Fundraiser set for The Fairmont Orchid on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017.

The gala evening will include dinner, silent and live auctions, and dancing to the live music of Vizion 20/20.

The Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Foundation was created 20 years ago after Frank and Laura Sayre lost their son in a hiking accident. The foundation was created to honor the dedication of Hawai‘i Island fire/rescue workers.

Proceeds from the dinner and fundraiser will be used to purchase needed equipment and training for the County of Hawai‘i Fire & Rescue Department that is not available to them through the county budget.

Over the years this event has raised more than $1.5 million to support Hawai‘i Island’s fire/rescue and emergency response teams including the ocean safety division.

Thanks to generous donations this past year, the foundation was able to refurbish the Rescue 7 boat, provide training for collapsed building structures, purchase long-range PA systems for the county’s  lifeguards and acquire equipment to enhance water and rope rescues.

This year, the foundation will honor the following Hawai‘i County Fire Department personnel, recommended from within the department for their meritorious service above and beyond the call of duty:

  • Chopper Pilot Paul Darryl
  • Fire Rescue Specialist Chad Chun Fat
  • Fire Rescue Specialist Jason Robello
  • Fire Rescue Specialist Mike Judd
  • Firefighter/EMT Shawn Watson Firefighter Michael Masuda
  • Rescue Watercraft Operator Paul Tucker
  • Rescue Watercraft Operator Robin Fasciano
  • Water Safety Officer II John Kapsky.

The stories surrounding the honorees will be a highlight of the evening.

The event will start at 4:30 p.m. with the opening of the silent auction.

The inclusive cost of each gourmet buffet dinner is $110 for adults; $58 per child up to age 12.

Patrons may also choose to sponsor a dinner for a firefighter and/or spouse at a cost of $100 per person.

Registration is currently available online.

Parking is complimentary for the event and The Fairmont is offering rooms at the special rate of $195 for all three nights of the Labor Day Weekend for those attending the DRS Foundation Awards Dinner. Contact The Fairmont’s reservations office at (808) 885-2000.
