The Hawai‘i County Fire Department responded to the report of a structure blaze in Kea‘au on Sunday, June 25, 2017.

Firefighters arrived on the scene at 11-3189 Lehua St. at 6:19 p.m. to find a  two-story, 25-by-25-foot wooden structure with a metal roof fully involved in flames.

No public utilities were connected to the building.

Defensive action was taken and structure shortly collapsed thereafter.

A single occupant on roadside told HCFD personnel that the fire started on the second floor while he was outside working on a vehicle. He said the fire spread quickly.

Loss from the fire was estimated at $155,200.
