Record Rain: Nearly 9 inches!

The last weather event that impacted Hilo brought a record amount of rain to the Hamakua coast and through the saddle. The Hilo International Airport rain gauge recorded 8.72 inches over a 24 hour period on January 24th.

This breaks the old record of 4.29 inches set in 1972 and is much higher than average. The average amount of rainfall for this time of year is 0.32 inches.
