A destructive Pacific-wide Tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawai‘i from today’s 6.9 magnitude (preliminary measurement) earthquake near the Solomon Islands that occurred at 9:10 a.m. HST.

The National Weather Service’s Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued this statement on Friday, Dec. 9, 2016, at 9:16 a.m.
