HPD Arrests 30 Motorists for DUI Offenses

duiDuring the week of Sept. 5 through 11, 2016, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 30 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

Two of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Three of the drivers were under the age of 21.

So far this year, there have been 750 DUI arrests compared with 736 during the same period last year, an increase of 1.9%.

There have been 968 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,066 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9.2%.

So far this year, there have been 17 fatal crashes on Hawaiʻi Island (three of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 20 fatalities, compared with 12 fatal crashes (two of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 15 fatalities during the same period last year. This represents an increase of 41.7% for fatal crashes and 33.3% for fatalities.

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
