The West Hawai’i County band, a 20 piece brass band comprised of community members will hold its next Free Friday concert on Friday, Sept. 9, starting at 6:30 p.m. at Hale Halawai Park on Ali‘i Drive in Kailua-Kona.

Celebrate “September Memories” with music ranging from Thus Spoke Zarathustra, best known from the epic movie 2001, A Space Odyssey, to the Disney classic When You Wish Upon A Star and march favorite King Cotton by J.P. Sousa, the march king.

The band is under the direction of Bernaldo Evangelista.

The West Hawai’i County Band is a community and civic band comprised of musicians from all walks of life. The band is supported in part by the County of Hawai’i Parks and Recreation Department.

The band rehearses weekly and performs regular monthly concerts at Hale Halawai. In addition, the band can be heard at parades and civic events in the community throughout the year.

The repertoire of the band includes march favorites, traditional brass band music, big band tunes and traditional Hawaiian  tunes.
