The National Weather Service released Tropical Storm Madeline information message for Sunday, Aug. 28, at 12:30 p.m.

As of 11 a.m. today, the NWS reports Tropical Storm Madeline is located about 885 miles east of Hilo moving in a northwest direction at 9 MPH. Maximum sustained winds are near 65 MPH with higher gusts.

Tropical Storm Madeline is expected to strengthen through Monday before beginning to weaken and turn toward the west Monday night or Tuesday.

The public is advised to be storm ready. Tropical storm readiness tips and information are available on the Civil Defense message page at hawaiicounty.gov. Monitor your local broadcasts for up-to-date information and plan early for possible impacts from all hazards that pose a threat to homes, businesses and to your community.

In addition, for your information and planning purposes, another weather system named Hurricane Lester is moving toward the Central Pacific and may affect the state over the upcoming holiday weekend.
