Sen. Mazie K. Hirono appeared on MSNBC Tuesday, Aug. 23, to refute Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump’s latest flip flop on immigration reform.

“We can’t trust somebody who changes his mind at literally the drop of a hat, or in this case, at the drop of the polls,” Sen. Hirono said on the news show. “What we have been hearing from Donald Trump for months and months are these very bizarre, divisive ideas about immigration.

“I’m an immigrant,” Hirono stated. “My mother brought me to this country to give us a chance for a better life. And believe me, a country with a Donald Trump as president would not be a welcoming country to immigrants like me.”

As the only immigrant currently serving in the US Senate, Sen. Hirono has been the leading advocate for family unity in fixing our broken immigration system. As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee in the 113th Congress, she was one of the authors of the Senate’s 2013 comprehensive immigration reform bill.
