Small Craft Advisory, Small Omais Swell Today
Alerts (as of 1:00 a.m.)
A Small Craft Advisory is posted for the ʻAlenuihāhā channel as well as waters to the south and west of the Big Island through 6 a.m. Friday.
**Click directly on the images below to make them larger. Charts include: Big Island projected winds, tides, swell direction & period and expected wave heights.**
Hilo side: Wave heights for spots exposed to the trade swell are expected to be waist/shoulder high today.
Kona side: Wave heights are expected to be knee/thigh high today, some spots could get up to waist high.
South: Wave heights are expected to be ankle/knee high high today, some spots could be flat. Spots catching trade swell could get up to waist/shoulder high.
Only trace amounts of swell today out of the south. Nothing significant through at least mid-month. Chances are looking better that a swell will line up around the 16th.
Omais (near Japan) has generated a very small swell for westerly spots and will be shifting out of the northwest. Javier (near Mexico) and Conson (east of Mariana Islands) aren’t looking like wave makers for us.
Keep in mind, surf heights are measured on the face of the wave from trough to crest. Heights vary from beach to beach, and at the same beach, from break to break.
