Brush Fire Burns Four Acres Near Hwy 190

The Hawai‘i Fire Department reports that all Waiakoa units responded to a brush fire on Highway 190 near Mile Marker 16 on the makai-side of the road, which was called in at 3:28 p.m. yesterday, July 14.

Units were on the scene by 3:43 p.m.

The highway was shut down in both directions for approximately 30 minutes for safety concerns when the Hawai‘i Police Department arrived on scene at approximately 4:15 p.m..

Fire crews surrounded both flanks until fire was pinched off and contained. Mop up operations commenced.

One lane of traffic was opened, and the scene was turned over to the state DLNR 7 p.m.

Both lanes of traffic opened soon after.
