Kailua-Kona Fire Causes $300,000 in Damages

Hawai‘i Fire Department units responded to a structure fire on Monday, July 4, 2016, at 73-5557 Lawehana St. in Kailua-Kona.

The alarm sounded at 9:13 a.m. and fire units were on the scene at 9:30 a.m.

At Air Conditioning Specialists Inc., fire personnel found a metal construction building with smoke emanating from the northern interior and roof of building as well as fire from the northern exterior of the building.

Units extinguished the fire on the north end consisting of PVC material and insulation. They then gained access to the northern entry of the building which consisted of office space which was fully involved. Units extinguished and overhauled office space prior to turning scene over to HFD inspectors for further investigation.

The fire was extinguished at 9:55 a.m.

The damages were estimated at $200,000.

The HFD responded to an alarm at the same address at 8:01 p.m. and were on the scene at 8:15 p.m.

Units extinguished the fire on the north end of the building (office) at 9:37 p.m. Units used positive pressure ventilation to clear building of smoke. Extinguished any fire extensions and overhauled office space prior to turning scene over to HFD inspectors for further investigation.

Investigators remained on scene throughout the night to secure scene and will continue investigation.

Additional damages were estimated at $100,000.
