HPD Arrests 20 for DUIs from June 6 to 12
During the week of June 6 through 12, 2016, Hawaiʻi Island police arrested 20 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant.
Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.
So far this year, there have been 504 DUI arrests compared with 456 during the same period last year, an increase of 10.5%.
There have been 650 major accidents so far this year compared with 682 during the same period last year, a decrease of 4.7%.
So far this year, there have been nine fatal crashes on Hawaiʻi Island (one of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 10 fatalities, compared with eight fatal crashes (two of which had multiple deaths), resulting in 11 fatalities during the same period last year.
This represents an increase of 12.5% for fatal crashes and a decrease of 9.1% for fatalities.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
