UH-Hilo Finishes Third in PacWest Hawai’i Challenge

The University of Hawai’i at Hilo finished in third place in the inaugural PacWest Conference Hawai’i Challenge standings.

Unveiled in 2015, the PacWest Conference Hawai’i Challenge involves head-to-head competition in multiple PacWest Conference sports between UH-Hilo, Hawai’i Pacific University, BYU-Hawai’i, and Chaminade University. The school with the best head-to-head record in competition sports or highest conference championship ranking in non-head-to-head sports receives the highest amount of four points in each sport, with the next highest team receiving three points. The bottom two teams receive two points and one point, respectively.

BYU-Hawai’i and Hawai’i Pacific tied at the top of the leaderboard with 30 points out of a possible 36. UH-Hilo followed next with 22 points, and Chaminade finished at the bottom with 16 points.

UH-Hilo received the highest possible four points in softball, and all four schools received four points in men’s basketball based on a split head-to-head record.
