Statewide outdoor siren warning system testing will be conducted on Monday.

The Hawai’i Emergency Management Agency conducts a test of the outdoor sirens, along with the live audio broadcast segment of the Emergency Alert System, on the first work day of the month at 11:45 a.m.

A steady one minute tone will ring from all sirens. The tone is used to alert the public of an emergency that could pose a threat to life and property.

In addition to being used in cases of natural hazards, the alert system could also be used for terrorist incidents or acts of war.

Hawai’i County Civil Defense disaster preparedness information can be found in the front section of telephone directories in all counties.

Problems with siren operations should be reported to Civil Defense at 935-0031
