May Day is Lei Day in Hawai’i.

The Volcano Art Center will celebrate the holiday with a May Day program on Sunday, May 1.

Leina`ala Trio, featuring Christy Leina`ala Lassiter, Lono Kanaka`ole, and JJ Ahuna, will perform impromptu hula by Noe Noe Kekaualua and Desiree Moana Cruz, and Kaipo AhChong will feature lei making.

Lei lessons will include sewing lei and proper protocol of giving and receiving a lei.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on VAC’s Gallery porch.

This event is free and open to the public, however, Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park entrance fees apply.
