Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is increasing his presence in Hawai’i ahead of next week’s Hawai’i Democratic Presidential Preference Poll.

Sanders’ presidential campaign announced that it will open a Hilo office on Saturday. A grand opening is slated for the location, set near the intersection of Kinoole and Ponahawai streets, with former Hawai’i County Mayor Harry Kim and current State Senator Russell Ruderman scheduled to be in attendance.

The opening of the Hilo campaign office will be the second in the state for Sanders’ campaign. An Oahu office was opened in the Ward Warehouse on March 9.

Sanders’ main opponent for the Democratic nomination, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, has opened two campaign locations in the state, one on Oahu and another earlier this week on Maui.

Ahead of the preference poll, Sanders’ campaign says it is running four different television ads in the state. Each of the commercials has a different theme, highlighting his background, public service record, platform, and highlights from different campaign spots.

Next week’s Democratic poll ballot includes Sanders, Clinton, and California businessman Roque De La Fuente.
