Thanks to a generous donation from the East Hawai’i District Tennis Association, new nets and straps are now displayed on the UH-Hilo campus tennis courts.

“The Vulcan tennis teams and myself wanted to thank the EHDTA for their generous donation,” said UH-Hilo tennis coach Tina McDermott. “We can’t express how much this was needed! We are thrilled that our facilities now reflect our ambition, passion, and aid us in our journey as we seek to improve every time we step on the court.”

Countless hours of practice time are accumulated on the courts, situated next to the UH-Hilo gymnasium and athletic offices. No home matches were played there this season, however. The only match that was scheduled was moved to Holua Tennis Center in Kona because of the threat of bad weather. All other matches have been played either on Oahu or on the mainland, which is where the Vulcans will wrap up their season.

“As we work towards our goals, we do so knowing that the EHDTA is a tremendous network of families, friends, and alumni that help us along the way,” McDermott said. “Thank you once again for your donation!”
