school PIXABAYThe second annual Hawai’i Island Homeschool Network conference is scheduled for Monday, April 4.

Participants will join together at the North Hawai’i Education and Research Center in Honoka’a with families who have a shared interest in homeschooling to attending organized sessions, a resource fair, and a featured session with keynote speakers Oliver DeMille and Rachel DeMille.

Oliver DeMille and Rachel DeMille will present “The 5 Highly Successful Homeschoolers,” which outlines five habits that are essential for providing an excellent homeschooled education.

The duo says the habits “facilitate greater family unity, reduced stress, increased learning and high levels of achievement.

Organized sessions will be available for both new and continuing homeschooling families, topics will range from blended learning and unschooling to extension courses and activities. In addition, college for homeschoolers, experienced homeschool family panels, and transitioning to homeschooling will be covered.

Representatives from curriculum vendors, local activities and blended programs will also be available through the events Resource Fair.

Homeschooling and blended learning programs that are offered on island, a supervised student activity room, a student showcase featuring student science fair presentations, slotted time for families to conduct a curriculum swap/buy/sell, a resource fair with curriculum and activities for homeschooled students, and field trip tours through the Heritage Center at the North Hawaii Education and Research Center will also be featured at the event.

Registration is $25 per family, through March 21. After the early deadline registration will be $45 per family until the day of the event, where registration at the door will be $50 per family.

Families interested in attending can register online at the Hawai’i Home School Network website.

In addition, the event is seeking volunteers as supervisors to the student rooms between 8:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. Volunteers will serve a 30 minute shift and will only pay $17 per family for their registration.
