Risk of Salmonella Leads to Country-Wide Pistachio Recall
Check your pistachio packaging.
Wonderful Pistachios announced Thursday that it has issued a voluntary recall of various flavors and sizes of its in-shell and shell pistachios after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention identified that the products may be linked to a Salmonella outbreak.
Eleven Salmonella cases in nine states have occurred. Two individuals were hospitalized, and no deaths have been reported. The specifics on where the illnesses occurred were not readily available.
The products included in the recall include some branded as Paramount Farms and Trader Joe’s. The products were distributed throughout the United States, in Canada, Mexico, and Peru.
To identify affected packages, review the lot number on the lower portion or bottom panel of the packaging.
Consumers can return these products to Wonderful Pistachios for a refund by sending the product back or bottom portion of the package that contains the lot code to Wonderful Pistachios, 13646 Hwy 33, Lost Hills, CA 93249.
Products can also be returned to the store from which it was purchased for a refund.
Anyone with a product or products listed in the recall should discard the nuts prior to returning the entire package or lot code panel to their retail store.
Questions should be forwarded to (844) 505-3844, 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
Symptoms and signs of Salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps that last four to seven days. Most people recover without treatment.
