A Small Craft Advisory is posted for leeward waters of the Big Island through 6 p.m. Thursday. The ʻAlenuihāhā channel and windward waters are under a more urgent Gale Warning.
A Special Weather Statement has been issued for the Hawaiian Islands for gusty north winds expected Wednesday. Cool, dry and gusty winds are expected downwind of higher terrain. The National Weather Service recommends you tie down loose outdoor objects and secure things before the winds increase.
A Wind Advisory is posted for the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa through 6 p.m. Wednesday for winds from 40 to 55 mph with higher gusts.

Looking Ahead
A cold front will linger near the Big Island through Wednesday as it weakens. The front will bring cool, gusty north winds behind the it. High pressure building in behind the front will maintain breezy trade winds through the weekend, with clouds and showers focused over windward areas.

Today we expect mostly cloudy skies with showers likely in windward spots and scattered showers for leeward areas. Windy conditions are forecast with 15 to 30 mph northeast winds gusting to 45 mph. High temperatures from 78° to 83°.

Northeast winds are expected from 15 to 30 mph with higher gusts. Scattered windward and mauka showers are forecast. Low temperatures from 66° to 71°.
