For the second straight week, a University of Hawai’i at Hilo softball player has earned the PacWest Conference’s Newcomer of the Week award in softball.

Last week, junior shortstop Victoria Garcia earned the award for a solid four-game series against BYU-Hawai’i. This week, the honor goes to sophomore Bailey Gaspar.

Gaspar, a transfer from AIB College of Business in Des Moines, Iowa, batted .600 (6-for-10) in the four game weekend series against Notre Dame de Namur. She accumulated two doubles, two walks, and four runs batted as UH-Hilo earned a four-game sweep of the Argonauts.

Academy of Art’s Brenna Mitchell was named Player of the Week, and Dixie State’s Aryn Feickert earned the Pitcher of the Week honor.

UH-Hilo (16-5 overall, 8-0 PacWest) continues its 14-game homestand with a doubleheader on Saturday against Dominican University. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for Noon at the UH-Hilo softball field.
