Hilo, Laupahoehoe Lifeguard Training Courses

PIXABAY lifeguardTwo American Red Cross lifeguard training courses will be offered by the Hawai’i County Department of Parks and Recreation within the next two months.

A session will take place at both Kawamoto Swim Stadium in Hilo and the Laupahoehoe Swimming Pool.

In order to participate, you must be at least 15 years old and pass a swimming ability pretest. A lifeguard training manual, which is available for free online, and a pocket mask are both required.

The courses cost $75 per person and successful completion will result in an American Red Cross certificate of lifeguarding, first aid, CPR, and AED use.

Certification lasts for two years and can be used to apply for pool lifeguard positions with the Hawai’i County Department of Parks and Recreation.

The Laupahoehoe training class will take place over a four-day period from 8:45 a.m. until 5:30 a.m. on March 16, 18, 21, and 23.

Hilo’s course at Kawamoto Swim Stadium will run from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday, April 18 through Friday, April 29. Pretesting will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6. Those interested in participating in the Hilo training should call Janie at 961-8698.
