High surf in West Hawai’i has kept portions of the Pu’uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park closed since Wednesday.

The picnic area, 1871 trail, and Pu’uhonua are all closed.

A park spokesperson said closures are anticipated to remain as new oncoming swells are predicted for the coming week.

Damages have taken place at the picnic area, and an assessment and clean-up work is underway.
