Garcia, a junior transfer from El Camino College in Torrance, Calif., hit .615 last week with four runs batted in to earn the PacWest Conference’s Newcomer of the Week award in softball.

UH-Hilo swept BYU-Hawai’i in the four games played last week, anchored at the plate by Garcia, who hit 8-for-13 with three doubles and six runs scored. She batted 3-for-4 with a stolen base in the back end of a doubleheader on Friday, then came back the next day and hit 3-for-3 with two doubles, a walk, and three runs scored. She capped the series by hitting 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
