East Hawai’i Roller Derby Leauge Seeks New Members
The Paradise Roller Girls are looking for new members for the 2016 season.
Based out of East Hawai’i, the roller derby league plans to host a community recruitment night on Dec. 17.
Members of PRG will share information about the league and its various positions within the league, including skaters, referees, and non-skating officials.
“One of my favorite things about roller derby is that it doesn’t discriminate against anyone. Every kind of woman can play roller derby,” said Holly “Von Schlappenbitsch” Zimmerman, PRG Vice President.

The recruitment night will begin at 5:30 p.m. and take place at Hawai’i Life Real Estate Brokers, located at 500 Kalanianaole Avenue in Hilo.
A Rookie Camp is slated for Jan. 4 at Wainaku Gym at 7 p.m.
Those of all ages, skill, and fitness levels are invited to participate, although PRG skaters have to be female.
New skaters can attend PRG’s open practices on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Mondays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Wainaku Gym.
Free skate Fridays are scheduled on Dec. 11 and Dec. 18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. On these days, skates and safety gear are available to borrow and derby girls are available to answer questions and assist with basic skills.
