Kilauea Traffic Signal Work Slated for Saturday

Traffic signal work at the Kilauea Avenue and Hualalai Street intersection in Hilo is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Dec. 12 between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The Department of Public Works Traffic Division will conduct work originally slated for Oct. 18, but was postponed as result of poor weather conditions.

Upgrades to the traffic signals will include the installation of wireless vehicle detection sensors in the roadway on all three approaches.The signals will be programmed to optimize traffic flow.

During the work, the roadway will remain open as crews work on one signal at a time. Motorists will be directed around the lane of use by off-duty officers.

Delays in the area should be expected and motorists should use alternate routes if possible.
