HPD: Apparent Downing Under Investigation

The Hawai’i Police Department is investigating an apparent drowning incident that took place on Sunday.

Authorities say the incident happened at Anaeho’omalu Bay in Waikoloa.

Just before 1 p.m. Sunday, South Kohala officers received a report that a concerned citizen had pulled an unknown man to shore and attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation with another bystander.

Hawai’i County Fire Department personnel attempted to revive the man, but were unable to bring him back to life.

An autopsy has been order to determine the exact cause of death. The case has been classified as a coroner’s inquest.

Area II Criminal Investigations Section detectives continue to investigate and are working to identify the victim.
