Body of a Man Found Floating in Hilo Bay

The body of a man was found in Hilo Bay Thursday evening.

According to the Hawai’i Police Department, officers responded just after 8 p.m. to a report of a body floating in the bay.

Officers arrived to the 100 block of Banyan Drive to find a man floating face down about 15 feet from shore.

Hawai’i County Fire Department personnel and HPD officers brought the unresponsive man to shore.

The man was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where he was officially pronounced dead at 9:02 p.m.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

Police are also attempting to identify the body.
