Hawai’i County Fire Department personnel responded to an Awalua Place structure fire in Kailua-Kona just after 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Fire fighters reportedly arrived on scene to find a single-story wood frame garage fully engulfed in flames. Part of the garage’s roof had collapsed. Officials believe it could have been at the fire’s point of origin.

HFD Company 21 used two attack lines and put the fire out from the back end of the structure in order to protect the house. Company 7 also assisted, supplying water from the nearest hydrant. The fire was out by 11:30 p.m.

There were no people or vehicles in the 900 square foot structure at the time of the fire.
