Thursday’s overtime win by the University of Hawai’i at Hilo women’s soccer team was a memorable win for the program, snapping an 11-match winless streak for the Vulcans when playing in extra time.

The win also helped to secure a pair of PacWest Conference Women’s Soccer weekly awards for key contributors.

Junior goalie Jenna Hufford was named Goalie of the Week, while Tiera Arakawa was named Freshman of the Week. Both were instrumental in the 1-0 overtime win against Chaminade at the Saint Louis High School field.

Hufford, from Shingle Springs, Calif., notched a key save and earned a shutout in the win over the Silverswords. Two days later, she recorded seven saves in a 1-1 draw at BYU-Hawai’i. She spent over 209 minutes in goal for the week.

Arakawa was the hero in the overtime win on Thursday, hitting her shot from about 25 yards out in the first 10 minutes of the extra session to win it for the Vulcans.

UH-Hilo is 1-0-2 on the season and will host a three-match homestand, beginning Saturday against Notre Dame de Namur. Kickoff at the UH-Hilo Baseball Field is scheduled for 12:30 p.m., followed by the men’s contest at 3 p.m.
