Kailua-Kona’s September Kokua Kailua Village event will host a special presentation on Sunday, Sept. 20 as award winning Hawaiian music entertainer Ku’uipo Kumukahi performs
The monthly event will begin at 1 p.m. with Kumukahi on stage at Emma’s Square on Ali’i Drive for a one hour performance, beginning at 5 p.m.
Self-taught Kumukahi, whose deep rooted family traditions, knowledge, and values play an integral role in her work, says that her influence also comes from other Hawaiian singers and her parents.
As a Na Hoku Hanohano Promising New Artist Award recipient, Kumukahi has also won awards for Female Vocalist of the Year and Traditional Hawaiian Album of the Year.

During Kokua Kailua, restaurants, merchants, and vendors fill Alii Drive as it becomes a pedestrian marketplace.
October’s Kokua Kailua will be held on Sunday, Oct. 18.
