Police Investigate Burglary at Joy’s Gift Shop in Hilo

The Hawai’i Police Department is investigating a burglary that occurred around 11:30 p.m. last Friday at Joy’s Gift Shop in Hilo.

Co-owner Bill Heideman said he was sleeping when he got the call that someone had broken into the store.

Upon checking the security camera’s video he became aware that the burglar took about six ukuleles, costing about $230-$270 each.

According to Heideman, the burglar got into the store through the front glass door. Heideman said the estimated damage for the door is about $700.

According to police, the incident is being classified as a second degree burglary and is still under investigation.

Anyone with information may call the Hawai’i County Police Department.
