Hilo Muni Improvements Set to Break Ground

The public has been invited by the Department of Parks and Recreation, Mayor Billy Kenoi, and County Councilman Dennis “Fresh” Onishi to a groundbreaking ceremony for improvements to the Hilo Municipal Golf Course on Friday, Aug. 14.

A blessing and groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. as the start of consturction work on the project is commemorated.

Four of the greens will be rebult by Jacobsen Construction, as well as the course clubhouse, cart storage building, rain shelters, comfort stations and maintenance building. During the reconstructoion, the contrator will also replace course waterlines, perform structural repairs, install acessible walkways at the driving range, build new bridges along the course, and replace the Kawailani Street fence. New fencing is also planned to be added to the area of the facility facing Haihai Street.

The project’s expected completition date is November 2016.

Most of the course will remain open throughout the duration of construction to minimize the impact to users of the golf course.

Between Febrary and May 2016, a modified 9-hole course will be offered to allow for construction to take place in other areas.

Light refreshments will be served.
