Public Update Meeting Set for Kona Highway Project

A public informational meeting will be held by the Hawai’i Department of Transportation on Aug. 25.

The meeting is scheduled to discussion the second phase of the Queen Kaahumanu Highway widening project and will take place at the Kealakehe High School Cafeteria from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

During the meeting, the community will be provided with an update to the planned construction and be informed of impacts on traffic. Officials from the HDOT, Goodfellow Bros., Inc., and SSFM International will present details of the project.

The second phase of the Queen Kaahumanu Highway widening project will widen the current highway, creating four lanes of traffic. Over 5.2 miles will be widened in an area ranging from Kealakehe Parkway to the Kona International Airport.

Construction Notice-To-Proceed is scheduled for Sept. 1.
