Monthly Siren Testing Planned
Sirens will sound Monday morning as the Hawai’i Emergency Management Agency conducts its monthly test of the statewide outdoor siren warning system.
The sounding takes place in coordination with the test of the live audio broadcast segment of the Emergency Alert System.
A one minute tone will play on sirens at 11:45 a.m.
The tone is used to alert the public in the event of an emergency that may pose a threat to life and property.
Sounding of the Emergency Alert System could also be used in the event of a terrorist incident or act of war.
Siren operation issues should be directed to Hawai’i County Civil Defense by calling 935-0031.
When a siren signal is sounded, tune to any local radio or television station to emergency information and instructions by Civil Defense.
Each month, on the first working day, the testing of the Emergency Alter System is conducted in cooperation with Hawai’i’s broadcasting industry.
Information regarding Civil Defense disaster preparedness can be found in the front section of telephone directories.
