The Hawai’i State Department of Education hopes to extend the period of availability fiscal year 2014’s School Improvement Grant Funds for the State Education Agency and all of its complexes to Sept. 30, 2018 by requesting a waiver to Section 421 of the General Education Provisions Act.

Under the requested waiver, the DOE will have an increased ability to implement the SIG program in eligible schools across the state. The implementation will improve the quality of instruction and increase the academic achievement of students for a STRIVE HI Priority status school.

If the waiver request is granted, it will allow the DOE to use the funds in accordance with the requirements for SIG published in the Federal Register in January 2010.

Comments regarding the waiver can be submitted by Aug. 10. Written comments can be sent to the DOE School Transformation Branch, Attention: Lisa Joy Andres, 475 22nd Avenue, Room 126, Honolulu, Hawai’i 96816. E-mailed comments should be sent to [email protected] or faxed to (808) 735-8375.
