Old Navy will open in the Prince Kuhio Plaza, as confirmed by plaza officials Tuesday.

The opening of the Hilo location was first announced by Big Island Now in March, amid rumors of a store location popping up within the Big Island’s only indoor shopping mall.

A 15,600-square-foot space near the recently opened Pier 1 Imports is the slated location of the store.

Plaza officials say the store is expected to have a staff of about 80 and be opened before the holiday season.

In March, a company official told Big Island Now that the new location would follow the newer version of Old Navy, like the one currently on Maui.

The Hilo store will be the first on the Big Island and the fourth in the state, with locations in Honolulu, Waipahu, and in Kahului.
