Daven Dayoan’s 93.9-pound Ulua was a good enough catch to top the leaderboard at the 12th Annual S. Tokunaga Store Ulua Challenge.

The yearly tournament started Thursday and wrapped up Sunday with the weigh-ins and awards at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium. Fishermen were allowed to go out in waters anywhere on the island to find their top catch.

Dayoan, who also was on top in the Barbless division, wasn’t on top of the Ulua Challenge leaderboard for long. John Camero’s 78.1-lb. catch stood for several hours as the biggest catch of the day before Garrett Fujioka turned in an 83.7-lb. Ulua just before 1:30 p.m. About an hour later, Dayoan stuck his name at the top of the big board for good.

Kurt Nakamura Sr. was the winner of this year’s Omilu Division with a 22.6-lb. entry.

No one got close to breaking the event record catch of 136 lbs., but the 611 entries was a new event high.
