The Department of Water Supply has announced a water conservation notice for customers in the Puako area from Kawaihae Village to Kawaihae Harbor, including the industrial area, subdivisions in the area, and the following resorts: Mauna Lani, Fairmont Orchid, Hapuna Prince Beach Hotel, and Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.

DWS says the water conservation is due to the failure of Parker Well #2.

In the notice, customers are asked to voluntarily reduce water use by 10 percent.

The following are suggestions from the DWS to reduce water usage:

Irrigate at night and with a pail for small jobs.

Use drinking water wisely.

In addition, the DWS suggests that agricultural water users keep usage to a minimum and irrigate only during night and non-peak hours, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Water should also be minimized for dust control.
